ITANAGAR, Aug 21: Students’ academic interests must be given top priority to have a good academic atmosphere in the campus of the educational institutes, Governor BD Mishra said.
The governor on Tuesday interacted with students and faculty members of Rajiv Gandhi University, the National Institute of Technology, and the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology at Raj Bhavan.
Speaking about the role of students in ensuring discipline and proper academic atmosphere in higher and technical educational institutions, Mishra opined that peace and tranquility on the campus must be maintained at all costs.
“There should be no stoppage of classes, no violence, destruction, extortion or obstruction, no political agenda and no thought or action against the unity and integrity of the nation in educational campuses,” he said.
Student bodies must support socio-academic advancement, promote talent, dignity and positivity of individual students in the campus, Mishra said.
“Student bodies must also promote social harmony, literacy, women empowerment, and cleanliness,” he said.
The governor apprised the students of the Placement and Ranking Improvement Committee set up by him for the RGU, the NIT and the NERIST.
He emphasized on innovative performance at the national level, healthy academic atmosphere, and apprenticeship opportunities to the best students to renowned industries for making institutes of higher education of Arunachal Pradesh “the most sought after institutes in India for campus recruitment and ranking enhancement.”
The governor also exhorted the students to participate in social movement to ensure that parents and guardians provide opportunities for education to every child in the age group of 6-14 years.
Earlier, Mishra along with the students observed a minute’s silence as a mark of respect to the people who lost their lives in the flood in Kerala, and as homage to former prime minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee. (PRO, Raj Bhavan)
