ITANAGAR, Oct 12: The Jote Panchayat Youth Welfare Association (JPYWA) has called for immediate shifting of NIT to its permanent campus at Jote.
In a release, the association claimed that massive fund is being spent to run NIT from its temporary campus at Yupia which is a loss to the state exchequer. While reacting to the present imbroglio between students and NIT authorities, the association has condemned the aggressive behaviour of students stating that their act has defamed the name of the institution and state.
“For their selfish interest, the students are bringing bad name to the premier institute of national importance. The strike launched by them is illegal as per the Supreme Court order and appropriate action should be initiated against them as per the law,” the JPYWA demanded.
Further they added, “During this whole drama, the people of Jote has maintained stoic silence. We understand the problem of students but the method adopted by them is absolutely wrong. They behaved like goons by blocking road and taking authorities to ransom. Everyone should understand that land for NIT was given free of cost. However till date permanent campus has not started functioning. Now that students are refusing to shift to Jote campus, our noble act of donating land free is going waste”.
“The land for NIT, Govt Law College or Film and Television Institute which are all based in Jote area has been generously donated free of cost by our people. We have not received any compensation and have not availed any benefit including employment, contract work etc. We have made sacrifice in the greater interest of state and country. If central and state governments fails to start NIT, Law College and FTI within this winter, the land donors will be left with no choice but to start the process of reclaiming the land,” the JPYWA added while claiming that the building infrastructure in the above three institutions is ready for occupancy.
