HAPOLI, Oct 26: The 4th state level Bamin Tani Memorial Badminton Tournament, organized by the 2007-’08 alumni of Dani Kunia Government Higher Secondary School, Ziro, got off to a colourful start at the multipurpose indoor stadium here in Lower Subansiri district on Friday.
Altogether 144 shuttlers are participating in various categories, including open and veteran categories. The tournament will conclude on 28 October.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Food & Civil Supplies Parliamentary Secretary Tage Taki invited more players to participate in the tournament.
“Participation is the greatest thing as some have to win and some to lose,” he said.
“This tournament is a sign of respect by students to their teacher who taught them,” the PS added.
IRS Bamin Tari spoke about the life and times of late Tani, and expressed appreciation for the organisers.
