KHONSA, Dec 10: Sports Authority of Arunachal Chairman Bamang Tago emphasized the need to encourage youngsters to participate in sports activities in order to inculcate in them the spirit of competitiveness, leadership quality and discipline.
“Sports teach discipline, develop leadership quality, and help build team spirit, besides keeping one physically fit and healthy,” Tago said on Sunday, attending the sports meet under Khelo India programme currently underway at Nehru Stadium here in Tirap district.
Tago hailed District Sports Officer Naoh Mongku and his team for organizing the sporting activities under Khelo India, and expressed optimism that the event would go a long way in achieving its objectives.
He directed the officers concerned to optimally utilize the funds under different central and state sponsored schemes.
Later, Tago distributed medals, trophies and certificates to the winners in Taekwondo and badminton disciplines.
Around 1000 athletes of both sexes are participating in the weeklong meet.
