DEOMALI, Feb 4: Ten veterinary department staffers, including a senior veterinary officer (SVO) from Deomali block, participated in a training programme on ‘common diseases of pigs and their prevention and control measures’ organised here by the Tirap Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) on Monday.
Animal husbandry & veterinary scientist Dr Parimita Dutta, who conducted the training, made a PowerPoint presentation on commonly occurring pig diseases in the district, along with their clinical symptoms, diagnosis, prevention, and control measures. She also discussed methods of restraining a pig, handling piglets, and blood collection technique.
Short documentaries related to pig farming were also shown to the trainees.
KVK Head Dr DS Chonnkar and Deomali SVO Dr Julie Phukan advised the trainees to encourage livestock farmers to adopt scientific methods, and to work for the benefit of livestock farmers of the district.
