ITANAGAR, Feb 11: The work for the four-laning of the strategically important Bhalukpong-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) road has been affected as the local people are not allowing the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to work in West Kameng district due to “non-finalization of the land acquisition compensation issue,” officials said on Monday.
The BCT road is the lifeline for Tawang, West Kameng and East Kameng districts.
“The local people are not allowing the BRO to work in the widening and four-laning of the BCT road between Elephant and Sessa villages due to non-finalization of land acquisition due to compensation issue,” Tezpur-based Defence Spokesman Lt Col Harsh Wardhan Pande said in a release on Monday, quoting the Project Vartak chief engineer.
Though the compensation estimate had earlier been given by the state administration and the BRO was ready to make payment, due to certain complaints received on the compensation estimate, a revised estimate was sought from the West Kameng deputy commissioner in July 2018, which has not yet been finalized, the release said.
The chief engineer informed that the matter was discussed at the higher level of the state administration to resolve the issue. However, the revised estimate could not be finalized yet.
“The BRO is ready to make the payment immediately on receipt of the estimate from DC Bomdila,” the release said.
The constructing agency has appealed to the villagers to allow the construction activities on the stretch of the road to avoid delay in completion of the project.
“The widening and double-lane work on the BCT road is presently under progress by the BRO,” the release added. (PTI)
