ITANAGAR, Mar 18: The ball is set rolling for the electoral process in Arunachal Pradesh, with the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday issuing notification for election to two Lok Sabha (LS) and 60 assembly seats.
The state will go for the assembly and Lok Sabha polls simultaneously on 11 April.
The last date for filing of nomination papers is 25 March and the scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on 26 March.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 28 March. The polling will be held on 11 April from 7 am to 5 pm. The counting will be held on 23 May.
As 21, 23 and 24 March are public holidays no nomination paper will be accepted on those days.
According to a release from the state chief electoral officer, notification has been issued by all the returning officers of the parliamentary and assembly constituencies, inviting nominations from the candidates.
West Siang deputy commissioner cum DEO is the returning officer for Arunachal (West) Parliamentary constituency and Lohit deputy commissioner cum DEO is the returning officer for Arunachal (East) Parliamentary constituency, the release said.
While the expenditure observers appointed by the ECI have already reached the election district headquarters, the general observers are likely to reach shortly, the release added.
A total of 2202 polling stations will be set up across the state for 7,94,162 voters, out of which 4,01,601 are women, the CEO informed, adding that voters’ Electoral Photo Identity Cards have been issued to 99.97% of the state’s electors.
