ITANAGAR, Mar 18: In a major setback for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), its state general secretary and a prominent face of the party, Jarpum Gamlin has quit after being denied the BJP ticket from Liromoba assembly constituency.
Jarpum, who is considered close to several top RSS and BJP leaders, including national general secretary Ram Madhav, was overlooked and the party nominated sitting MLA Nyamar Karbak.
While talking to this daily, he said his decision to quit the BJP was “a difficult one.”
“I have nothing against the party and will always be grateful to them for providing me the opportunity to be a part of them. However, I was shocked by the decision of denying the ticket to me,” he said.
Gamlin also informed that he is yet to decide on joining any other political party at the moment.
“I will decide on it after consulting my supporters. I am committed to fighting the elections and appeal to all my supporters to stand by me,” he added.
Earlier, submitting his resignation letter to state BJP president Tapir Gao, Gamlin wrote, “I have found working for the BJP a matter of immense pride and endless satisfaction to myself. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served in the capacity of state general secretary BJP which allowed me to traverse the length and breadth of Arunachal Pradesh and interact with people at the grassroots taking along the party’s ideology.”
“For some time now I have been working closely with the public of 27-Liromoba Assembly Constituency as a contender for the ensuing Assembly Elections 2019. The party is well aware of this. However, as the party has announced the ticket which is not in my favour, I am in a precarious position torn between the party and my supporters. After much thought I have decided that I cannot let down the expectations of my supporters who have reposed faith in me. I have decided, therefore, to resign from the primary membership,” the letter read.
