ZIRO, Mar 28: Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Chukhu Takar has urged all political parties to abide by all the provisions of the election model code of conduct (MCC).
During a meeting with the candidates and representatives of political parties, election agents, and the general observer (GO) for the district here on Thursday, the DC expressed hope that the upcoming elections would be free and fair, without any violence.
GO Shanavas S highlighted the MCC guidelines and said “any worry lists pertaining to the elections” should be submitted to the DC for redress.
He directed ensuring wide circulation of the numbers of the complaint registry and the monitoring/control room, and of the toll-free complaint numbers.
He also said loudspeakers should not be used from 10 pm to 6 am, and that they should not be used near schools and hospitals.
“The usage of loudspeakers should be completely banned 48 hours prior to voting,” he added.
The GO also called for strict adherence to the Property Defacement Act, and said it should be ensured that no handouts or print publicity materials that incite religious sentiments are circulated.
“Any violation of the MCC shall be viewed very seriously and reported to the ECI for further action,” he said.
Among others, the meeting was attended by SP Hemant Tiwari, and the returning officers of Yachuli and Ziro-Hapoli constituencies. (DIPRO)
