ITANAGAR, Nov 6: A workshop on formulation of Local Area Plan (LAP) and Town Planning Scheme (TPS) was held here recently for officials of the Department of town and country planning.
The event is being organised by the Centre for Urban Studies of Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), New Delhi with an aim to sensitize town planners on the benefits of using effective tools to bring about planned urban development.
Town and Country Planning Organisation’s (TCPO) Town and Country Planner R Srinivas, along with his team comprising of assistant town planners Sudeep Roy, D Blessy and Harpal Dave, and Dr Kusum Lata from the IIPA, explained about the pilot scheme of LAP and TPS funded by the Central Government for selected 25 cities.
Srinivas encouraged the state to replicate the example of other cities to maximize the use of the tool for planned development of varioustowns in the state.
LAP is a tool useful for urban improvement in Brownfield areas whereas TPS helps bring about planned urban expansion on the periphery of the towns. Judiciously using the tools help create improved urban infrastructure such as roads, water supply, drainage, parks, affordable housing etc and overall boost urban development, the director of state TP&ULB informed in a release.
The workshop was attended by a group of approximately 30 architects and engineer planners. The output of deliberations, if applied, could assist in the progress of the state.
The workshop was sponsored by the state’s Town Planning& Urban Local Bodies Department and the Central Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and supported by the Town and Country Planning Organisation (TCPO).
