NAMSAI, Nov 13: Two-day training on ‘Scientific pig farming in Namsai district’ organized by the KVK Namsai for rural 35 youth of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), a non-profit organization of farmers, concluded here in the district on Wednesday.
Animal Science Subject Matter Specialist Dr B K D Borah explained about the various aspects of pig farming, includinghousing, selection of breed, feeding, breeding, health care and its management. He also urged the trainees to adopt scientific approach for maximum benefits.
During the training, field visit was also carried out to show the pig demo units established at farmer’s fields by the KVK to encourage learning by seeing.
Castration demonstration was also conducted to empower the farmers so that they would not have to depend on local untrained persons for castration of their piglets, where a large number of piglet deaths occur due to improper, unhygienic and unscientific procedure of castration.
In the valedictory programme, BKS secretary Pankaj Borang expressed his satisfaction over the training given by the KVK and sought more trainings, particularly on goat species, for the members.
