DAPORIJO, Jan 20: The Dumporijo branch of the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society, in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW), organised an awareness programme on ‘compulsory registration of marriage and free legal aid’ here in Upper Subansiri district on Monday.
DPO Millo Pussang, SP Taru Gusar, Dr Nareng Padun, APSCW legal advisor Karmu Chotton, and advocate Lukmar Digbak informed the participants about the Maternity Benefit Act, skill development and vocational training, and various government schemes for women. They also spoke on crimes against women, drug abuse and alcoholism, customary practices with regard to marriage and land laws, and sexual harassment at workplace.
Calling on women to know their rights, APSCW member Techi Hunmai said, “Gender equality is a constitutional right of women.”
APSCW Chairperson Radhilu Chai Techi apprised the participants of the commission’s recommendations to the state government, including for independent protection officers in all districts, women cells in every police station, and separate women police stations in every district. (DIPRO)
