ITANAGAR, Sep 18: The Government of Madhya Pradesh honoured Professor Oken Lego, Head of the Department of Hindi of Rajiv Gandhi University with the ‘Hindi Bhasha Seva Samman 2017’ on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, held recently at Bhopal.
Professor Lego is the first recipient from the entire North-East region to have received this prestigious award.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan felicitated Professor Lego with a memento, shawl, shreefal and cash award of Rs 1 lakh.
The award was established by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Government of Madhya Pradesh to honour scholars who dedicate their work to popularizing and promoting the Hindi language with their writings.
The jury nominated by the Government of Madhya Pradesh unanimously selected Professor Lego for his efforts to actively researching and writing for promoting Hindi, particularly in a largely tribal state like Arunachal Pradesh.
All together, 12 scholars from different parts of India and the world, including from the United Kingdom and Mauritius were felicitated on the occasion.
