PDMAP against signing of new MoU for hydel project

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: Claiming that 142 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) and Memorandum of Agreement (MOAs) have already been signed for construction of hydro projects in the state, the Pro-Dam Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (PDMAP) in a memorandum to the Chief Minister has urged the Govt not to sign any new MoU for construction of hydro projects.
Informing that many projects are yet to start, the PDMAP said that construction of large number of dams is against the interest of indigenous people who are mainly depending on agriculture land for their livelihood.
Moreover, hydel projects affected people in the state are not well-compensated, it further said.
Referring to the 110 MW Pare Hydro project and 405 MW Ranganadi Projects, PDMAP said that no adequate measures have been taken for safety of the downstream people. Claiming that job recruitment system is not transparent and the dam construction agencies are neglecting the unemployed youths of the state, the organization also said that there should be 100% job reservation for group C and D posts for local youths.
