PCI seeks report from govt on destruction of The Arunachal Times copies

ITANAGAR, Oct 23: Taking suo-motu cognizance of the recent burning and destroying copies of The Arunachal Times newspaper by the Adi Baane Kebang Youth Wing, Press Council of India (PCI) Chairman, Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad has directed the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to file a report on the facts of the case on October 23.
Raising concern over the act, the PCI Chairman has directed the state government to come up with a report through the Chief Secretary, Secretary (Home), Director General of Police, and Superintendents of Police of Itanagar and East Siang district.
Earlier, a video footage was widely circulated in social media, where two people were seen burning copies of The Arunachal Times and inciting communal hatred against the particular daily.
Accordingly, the state press fraternity had filed an FIR at the Itanagar Police Station on October 7 last against the persons involved in the act and against the person(s) who uploaded the video in social media sites.
