Civil society demands improvement of Itanagar-Jote road

ITANAGAR, Oct 24: The United Sangdupota Intellectual Youth Forum (USIYF) on Tuesday began its first phase of democratic movement with ‘Rasta Roko’ at Itanagar-Jote road.
The democratic movement began with blocking the movement of heavy vehicles on the Itanagar-Jote road. These vehicles are believed to be an important cause of damaging the road, which is in pathetic condition.
USIYF Chairman Teli Tadap Camdir said that people of Jote-Poma are suffering a lot due to the dilapidated condition of the Itanagar-Jote road which is the only life line of the area.
“Many important institutions like NIT, entrepreneur development institute, Government Law College, Film and Television Institute, Government Women’s College and circle headquarter are located in the area. Along with them, the public is also facing torrid time,” said Tadap.
He further informed, “We have been pursuing the matter with PWD Doimukh Division for years, demanding improvement of Itanagar to Jote road. Even after the completion of the tender process and passing of many months, the PWD is yet to award the work to any executing firm so that work can start. Due to pathetic condition of the road, the NIT is yet to start classes in its permanent campus at Jote and also resulted in the recent unrest at NIT Jote.”
He also informed that several memorandums were submitted to authorities, including the Deputy Chief Minister and Chief Minister to draw their attention, but nothing has changed on ground yet.
