Mini marathon organized

DEOMALI, Dec 11: A mini-marathon race themed ‘Run for better environment, better tomorrow’ for both men and women was organized here in Tirap district by NGO Care Me Home Welfare Society on Monday to raise environmental awareness.
The 7.5 km long race was flagged off by Assistant Conservator of Forests Dobin Lendo, who briefed about environmental problems and related issues.
Nganpho Ngandam won the race in the men’s category, followed by Ganjoh Gangsa and Pankai Wangsu in second and third positions.
In the women’s category, the first, second and third position winners were Yamyum Khocha, Nyiniam Aboh and Phitung Anyiam.
ACF Dobin Lendo and Block Development Officer Phecha Wangcha distributed prizes to the winners.
There were also consolation prizes for the remaining top 10 finishers. The consolation prizes were distributed by Ngelang Songthing and Range Forest Officer Oket Tamut.
The event also witnessed distribution prizes to the winners of drawing competition, which was held on November 19.
The winners were Wangsam Wangsu (first prize), Jitwang Kitnya (second prize), Wangtah Wangsu (third prize).
The theme for the drawing competition was “Human-elephant conflict and its mitigation” and “wildlife protection cum forest conservation”.
Cash prizes, trophies and certificates were given away to the winners by Deomali ADC Penga Tato.
