ITANAGAR, Jan 2: The District Students Unions Co-ordination Committee of Namsai, Changlang and Papum Pare on Chakma/Hajongs Issue constituted by the All Papum Pare District Students’ Union, All Namsai District Students’ Union and All Changlang District Students’ Union, has requested the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) to immediately appeal to the District Election Officer (DEO) of Papum Pare, Namsai and Changlang to conduct special hearing before 15 January to look into the case of fresh enrolment of 442 names of Chakma and Hajong refugees in the electoral roll of 14 Doimukh, 46 Chowkham, 49 Bordumsa-Diyun and 50 Miao assembly constituencies.
The enrolment reportedly took place during the Special Summary Revision and special drive conducted in the month of October and November last year.
Further, they have urged the AAPSU to fill Form 7 objection application and submit it to the concern Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) at the earliest for deletion of old enrolments done before 2017, wherein 3986 Chakmas and Hajongs were enrolled in the electoral roll in the districts of Papum Pare, Namsai and Changlang.
The affected district students’ unions claimed that it has verified the documents enclosed in Form 6 application for new enrolment by the Chakma and Hajong refugees and found that the Election Voter Identity Cards were issued by concerned EROs without citizenship registration proof and under violation of Section 31 of the Representation of People Act, 1950.
Meanwhile, the Committee decided not to further pursue the Chakma and Hajong refugee issue with the government of Arunachal Pradesh and authorities concerned, without the permission of the AAPSU.
This comes days after the AAPSU advised the people of the refugee affected area to consult with them before raising the refugee issue with the authorities concerned.
