DAPORIJO, Jan 21: A jawan of the Assam Regiment has been arrested for raping a girl.
The alleged accused has been identified as Gake Kamra from Payeng Circle, Taliha. The incident is reported to have occurred on the evening of 15 January in the house of the girl, after the jawan forcefully entered the house. After raping the girl, he reportedly fled from the scene.
The girl’s family lodged a complaint at the Daporijo police station on 19 January, and a case was registered under Section 376/493 IPC.
Meanwhile, police station OC T Rebi informed that the alleged accused has been nabbed from Doimukh area by the police in Doimukh, based on the complaint.
A police team has been deputed to bring the alleged accused from Doimukh to Daporijo, the OC said.
In her complaint, the girl revealed that she had been raped by the same person in 2007 also, when she was studying in Class V.
After several meetings in the traditional court, the case had been resolved and the accused had promised to marry the girl later. However, after getting a job, the man reportedly abandoned her.
