Jaitley’s budget ‘gol matol’: APCC

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has termed the budget presented by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley a ‘gol matol budget’ worked out eyeing next year’s Lok Sabha election.
‘The government, like in previous years, has announced various schemes but no specific details for their implementation have been given. It (the budget) has been prepared to serve the interests of Modi’s big corporate friends, eyeing the 2019 election,’ the party stated in a release on Friday.
The party also ridiculed Jaitley’s claim during the budget presentation that India was becoming the fifth fastest growing economy in the world.
‘It was during the UPA regime, when India’s Gross Domestic Product was 6%. The BJP, during its five years in power, failed to bring the GDP even to a minimum 3.5 %,’ the APCC said.
‘In the current budget, there is nothing worth mentioning for the social sector. Neither tax exemption nor reduction was there in the budget,’ the party said.
The APCC said that the BJP government has failed to fulfill its poll promise that it would provide jobs to 2 crore unemployed youths annually.
‘Four years gone, no job for the youths,’ the party said.
The APCC also said that the BJP has ‘astutely’ switched the deducted amount of Rs 2 from petroleum products to highway/road cess.
Stating that the budget was not comprehensive and holistic as claimed, the APCC also flayed Chief Minister Pema Khandu for allegedly misguiding the public that Rs 1290 crore have been sanctioned to promote the Bamboo Mission in Arunachal Pradesh.
‘In fact, the said amount is for the entire country. Such false endorsement proves Pema’s hypocrisy to please Modi and befool the people of the state,’ it said.
