TEZU, Feb 14: Continuing its fight against illicit opium cultivation in Lohit district, the district administration along with the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), police personnel, Forest and Tax and Excise departments conducted operations in Tafragam, Changliang and Shivaji Nagar areas and destroyed around 140 hectares of opium cultivation on Wednesday.
The team faced stiff resistance from some opium growers who pelted stones and tried to damage the government vehicles. Roads were also blocked in some areas, according to an official release.
In spite of such disturbances, the team was successful in conducting the operation, the release added.
