Villagers ready to shun opium

CHANGLANG, Feb 25: Many villagers in Kangla under Yatdam circle of Changlang district have expressed their willingness to give up opium and shun poppy cultivation if the government provides proper support for treatment of opium addiction and alternative crops for the poppy growers.
This was disclosed by the villagers before the Tangsa and Tutsa People’s Organisation (TTPO) of Changlang during an awareness programme recently.
Health officials of the Changlang district hospital were also involved in the medical and de-addiction awareness camp, which was organized by the TTPO on 23 February in Kangla village.
Informing the villagers about the de-addiction facilities available in the district hospital, they urged the villagers to identify the addicts and motivate them to undergo opium addiction treatment in the hospital.
Medicines were also distributed among the patients for free.
The department of Food and Civil Supplies and Changlang police station also donated first aid kits to the villagers. (DIPRO)
