PASIGHAT, Feb 28: In all, 25 participants from Pasighat, Mebo and Ruksin blocks of East Siang district attended the eight-day training programme for farmers on ‘Advances in Production Technology of Selected Agri-Horti Crops’ which concluded here on Wednesday.
Organized jointly by the College of Agriculture (COA), College of Horticulture & Forestry (CHF) and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) East Siang, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Pasighat, the training was sponsored by the ICAR-ATARI, Zone-VII, Umiam, Meghalaya under the aegis of Director of Extension Education, CAU, Imphal, Manipur.
In his inaugural address, Dean, College of Horticulture & Forestry, Central Agricultural University, Dr AK Pandey emphasized on available location specific and farmer-friendly technologies for the farming community of the district.
He also elaborated on the prospect of vermicomposting and the need of integrated nutrient management to increase production and productivity of crops in the state.
Dr Pandey also advised the participants to concentrate on commercial vegetable cultivation and promote organic based farmer-friendly technologies.
Assistant Director Agriculture (Training), Farmers Training Centre, Pasighat, Rigam Riba appraised the participants about different activities taken up by the FTC and ATMA in East Siang district.
Dean of College of Agriculture and Course Director of the training, Prof BN Hazarika also spoke on the occasion.
