ZIRO, Mar 7: Lower Subansiri Additional Deputy Commissioner, Nending Chatung has urged the Education and the ICDS departments in particular, to motivate the nodal teachers and the anganwadi workers respectively, to ensure better coverage during the National Deworming Day (NDD).
He said this during the District Level National Deworming Day (NDD) Committee meeting which was held in the office chamber of the deputy commissioner on Wednesday, to discuss and strategise the work plan of the ensuing NDD to be launched on 19 March next across the district.
Chairing the meeting,the ADC called for unified efforts from all the stakeholders.
“The Herculean task of covering 21, 988 children of 1-19 years of age, cutting across the entire district will need dedication and cooperation from all the stakeholders”, Chatung said and suggested notifying and including the administrative officers of the areas during the orientation programs, so that they are trained enough to convince unwilling parents to participate in such health programs.
DMO, DrTage Kanno suggested for assigning a teacher as a permanent health coordinator in every school. These teachers will attend orientations of all the health programs and motivate the students.
DRCHO Dr Derin Likar spoke about deworming and its importance in developing a healthy youth population.
Later, the members also discussed about the Weekly Iron Folic Acid (WIFS) programme and decided to explore possibilities of providing the iron tablets to private schools as well.
The meeting was attended by DDSE Hibu Tama, AIR Director Hage Tachang, CDPO Hage Indira, EE PHE Kago Habung and DPMs of various NHM programs. (DIPRO)
