DIRANG, Mar 10: The ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak, Dirang conducted a three-day awareness cum training programme on “Fodder conservation to mitigate hungry gaps in yak & its hybrids during winter” at Mandala under Dirang circle of West Kameng district from 6 to 8 March.
A total of 67 farmers from different areas, like Phudung, 28th mile, Barshi villages who are directly or indirectly involved in yak farming participated in the programme.
Dr D Medhi, Senior Scientist cum Co-ordinator of the programme, Dr S Deori, Scientist, Animal Reproduction and Dr T P Singh, Scientist, Livestock products technology of the institute were the resource persons.
During the programme, the tribal farmers were briefed about scientific feeding and management of yaks and conservation techniques of forages to mitigate winter feed crisis. The farmers were also shown techniques of feeds and fodder conservation ensiling of forages, urea molasses treatment of poor quality roughages, CFB preparation using manual CFB making machines, etc.
Mandala village Gaon Burha Rin Tsering appreciated the efforts of ICAR-NRC on Yak Director Dr P Chakravarty for conducting the programme and giving benefits of the TSP funds of the institute to the yak rearers of his area.
