Human rights org lodges complaint against stone crusher plants

NAMSAI, Mar 12: The state unit of North East Human Rights Organization (NEHRO) has informed that it has lodged a complaint with the Namsai Deputy Commissioner against establishment of stone crusher plants illegally along the Digaru-Chongkham Highway without complying with the environmental norms.
In a release, the NEHRO stated that the dust particles produced by the stone crushers are polluting the environment in the area and causing health hazards.
As per norms, the NEHRO said, such plants should be set up at a minimum distance of 200M from the National Highway with the provision of water sprinkling arrangements to prevent dust emission, which is not being maintained in this instant case.
The NEHRO further informed that it had earlier written to the Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board to take appropriate action against all the illegal stone crusher plants within a month.
It also urged the authority concerned to check the air quality in the entire highway area and nearby villages at Alubari (Digaru area).
