Railways set June target for completion of Bogibeel Bridge

RUKSIN, Mar 28: The Commissioner of Railway Safety, P K Acharya, accompanied by top ranking NF Railway officials on Wednesday conducted a trial run of the newly completed Dhemaji- Bogibeel BG railway line.
They officials conducted test ride between Sisiborgaon and Tongani station in the north bank of the Brahmaputra River. They also inspected Tongani station near Kareng-Bogibeel Bridge and took stock of its progress.
Bogibeel Bridge, the country’s longest rail-cum road bridge is under construction for the last 16 years. The railway authority has set a target of June this year to complete the construction of the bridge.
The 4.94 km bridge will facilitate connectivity between the north and south banks of the Brahmaputra in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
According to NF Railway sources, out of the total 41 pillars along the bridge, work on 31 pillars has been completed, while work on the remaining part is under progress.
The cost of the project shot up from Rs 1,700 crore to Rs 6,000 crore and deadlines were missed numerous times.
