Mopin celebrated

‘Festivals showcase culture, identity’

AALO, Apr 8: “Festivals showcase our rich culture and distinct identity, and every member of the society, irrespective of religious affinities, should celebrate them,” said Sports & Youth Affairs Parliamentary Secretary Nyamar Karbak in his address during Mopin celebration here in West Siang district on Friday.
Karbak also advocated documenting the Galo culture and preserving it for future generations. “Festivals should act as a platform to bring oneness, mutual trust, goodwill and understanding among various communities,” he added.
DLRSO Takam Titus said “the festival which is celebrated in many moods is reaching new heights every year due to the efforts of the organizing committee,” and exhorted the youths to “take keep interest in our own culture.”
He promised to donate two mithuns ?for next year’s Mopin celebration.
Celebration committee president Doli Lollen and secretary Gemar Padu spoke on the history and mythological aspects of Mopin, and urged the participants to “rise above social taboo and participate in such celebration.”
Mopin was also celebrated at the deputy commissioner’s residence, where a mithun was sacrificed. The Pingi Neri duo of the festival – Yaman Bagra and Pebom Bagra – will host the concluding ceremony of the weeklong celebration. (DIPRO)
