New badminton hall inaugurated

LONGDING, May 2: A new badminton hall was inaugurated here on Wednesday by local MLA cum Parliamentary Secretary Power Thanwang Wangham.
The hall is named after late Tingpong Wangham, former MLA of Longding, and two-time minister in the state cabinet. Dicky Wangham, son of late Tingpon Wangham expressed his gratitude for naming the hall after his late father.
“My whole family thanks the Longding MLA and district administration for making my father immortal by dedicating the new badminton hall to his name,” he said.
In his speech, MLA Thangwang remembered the late leader fondly and termed him a youth icon and people-friendly leader. He also recounted late Tingpong Wangham’s role in upgrading the then Longding sub-divisional office to a full-fledged ADC headquarter, paving the way for eventual grant of Longding district.
He also urged the youth and the officers to make most of the hall. He exhorted the officers in particular to assemble in the hall for socialisation, interaction and to develop interpersonal relationship amongst the officers to create a conducive and homely atmosphere.
Later, Tailai Taham, president of the District Olympic Association presented a three-point memorandum to the MLA regarding construction of boxing ring for aspiring boxers of the district, badminton synthetic mat and a generator set for the hall, to which the latter readily accepted.
Longding SP Rohit Meena, ADC Tage Ekke, HoDs, PRI members and public were present on the occasion.
