HAPOLI, May 28: The Lower Subansiri district administration has set 2 October as the target to make Ziro town garbage-free.
“We have to achieve this target as a befitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birthday,” said EAC Mobia Tai while setting the target during a consultative meeting on cleanliness, held here on Sunday.
He sought active participation of the public and the shopkeepers in order to achieve the target. The EAC appealed to them to keep their premises neat and clean.
He said a fresh order will be issued by the district administration, banning the use and sale of plastic shopping bags in Ziro. He said he was disappointed to see the use of plastic carry bags in violation of the ban order which had been promulgated earlier.
Ziro Police Station OC Passang Simi asked the shopkeepers to report to the police or the administration any cases of forced donation or harassment, stating that the identity of the informer(s) would not be disclosed.
Hapoli Bazaar Committee (HBC) social service secretary Radhe Tagia appealed to the people to refrain from discarding garbage randomly. He informed that surveillance cameras have been installed at almost every corner of the township, and that action will be initiated against violators.
The meeting was organized by the HBC in collaboration with the UD & housing department.
