PASIGHAT, Jun 2: Swachh Bharat Summer Internships, 2018, was launched in East Siang district on Friday.
Started by the union human resource development ministry in association with the union drinking water & sanitation ministry, the programme aims to enroll students for promoting cleanliness in villages.
Under the programme, students are invited to select a village of their choice, and work with the village community for improving sanitation and hygiene in the village.
In East Siang, five youth clubs have initially been enrolled. The club members will render 100 hours of services till 31 July to clean their chosen areas.
The first team was flagged off on Friday at the Ranaghat check gate area by DMO Dr Mindip Perme, and the programme on Saturday was flagged off by MLA Kaling Moyong in the presence of Chief Municipal Councillor Kaling Doruk and others.
Both Moyong and Dr Perme appealed to the locals to extend support and cooperation in making the programme a success.
Nehru Yuva Kendra district coordinator Tapun Taki said the best performing teams/youth clubs and individuals will be awarded cash prizes.
The volunteers covered Ward 1 and Ward 5 of the Pasighat Municipal Council during the two-day cleanliness drive.
