Candlelight march staged over suicide case

DIRANG, Jun 5: Members of the All Dirang Students’ Union (ADSU) and the Dirang Sumo Union on Monday took out a candlelight march here in West Kameng district to demand justice for a woman named Pema, who allegedly committed suicide on 13 May in Tawang.
The ADSU stated in a press release that Pema, who was serving as a contingency staffer at the crafts centre in Tawang since 2008, allegedly committed suicide under duress.
The sister of the deceased reportedly lodged an FIR against a government officer on 14 May, naming him as the main abettor to the suicide.
The ADSU said it has submitted a memorandum to the authority concerned, seeking early arrest of the alleged culprit and his termination from his job.
The family members of the deceased also participated in the march.
