LOILIANG, Jun 14: Loiliang village under Tezu sadar circle in Lohit district has been selected as a model village under the Chief Minister’s Adarsh Gram Yojana (CMAGY).
After launching the initiative during a function at the government primary school here on Thursday, Agriculture Minister Dr Mohesh Chai described the day as a historic one for the people of Loiliang.
“It (Loiliang) will embark on a new era of development where the people will be provided with piped drinking water, electricity at the household level, primary school, primary health infrastructure, internal roads, avenues of employment generation, and an open defecation-free village.”
Loiliang is one of the oldest villages in the district, and has retained its cultural and traditional ethos. It has also been selected as one of the two model cultural villages in Arunachal Pradesh.
Dr Chai suggested developing the village as a “cultural hub from the tourism point of view.”
“This year 32 beneficiaries have been selected for construction of dwelling houses through the gram sabha under the CMAGY. The entitled amounts will be deposited in their bank accounts through direct benefit transfer. All this is to ensure transparency and accountability,” the minister said.
He encouraged the local youths to use their smart phones to find out about the schemes and policies of the government, and advised them to visit www.arunachalbudget.in “to broaden their knowledge about the plans and policies of the state government.”
Dr Chai also spoke of his plan to send women members of self-help groups to Jorhat (Assam) for undergoing industrial training.
“It will provide them with skills to make saleable items by using available raw materials, which will help them to uplift their economic status,” he said.
The minister also informed that an engineering college has been sanctioned for Tezu under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan.
Deputy Commissioner Karma Leki said the selected beneficiaries under the smart village initiative will be awarded with the fund in phases, “after observing all the codal formalities.”
The DRDA PD, GBs, and others also spoke. (DIPRO)
