Union urges edn min to halt payment to supplier until textbooks reach schools

ITANAGAR, Jun 15: The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) has urged the education minister to direct the authorities concerned to not make any payment to the carriage contractor appointed for carrying NCERT textbooks to the districts until the textbooks are dispatched and disbursed to all the schools and students.
“Previously, most of the firms which the education department had appointed to procure and supply textbooks did not deliver the textbooks to all the schools, which reflected in the district-wise textbook verification report,” the ANSU stated in a representation to the minister.
“It is an identified fact that shortage of textbooks has been one of the major reasons for the poor performance of students in examinations, especially those conducted by the CBSE,” it said.
The union said M/s Arunachal Traders, Naharlagun, has been appointed as the carriage contractor for supplying elementary and secondary level textbooks to all the district headquarters, including the capital complex, for the 2018-19 academic session.
