Statistics Day celebrated

ITANAGAR, Jun 30: The directorate of economics & statistics here celebrated the 12th Statistics Day, commemorating the 125th birth anniversary of great statistician Prof PC Mahalanobis, in a grand manner on Friday.
Economics & Statistics Director B Megu highlighted the contribution made by Prof Mahalanobis to the nation.
“The second Five-Year Plan of the country was adopted on the Mahalanobis model of economic growth, which worked towards rapid industrialization,” he said.
Prof Mahalanobis’s contributions in the field of statistics were also instrumental in establishing the National Sample Survey and the Central Statistical Organization, and setting up of the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.
Informing that the programme will become a regular feature henceforth, Research Officer L Regon requested school authorities and students to take active part in such programmes in the days to come.
A quiz competition was organized to mark the celebration. VKV Chimpu bagged the first prize, while GHSS Arunodaya and KV No 2 secured second and third position respectively. The participants were awarded with citations and mementos.
