GoAP committed to ensure workers’ welfare: Kaso

ITANAGAR, Jul 24: The state government under Chief Minister Pema Khandu is committed to work for the welfare of the labour community of the state, said UD Parliamentary Secretary Techi Kaso.
Speaking here on Tuesday during an event organized by the Joint Working Committee of Arunachal Pradesh Trade Unions (JWCAPTU), Kaso assured them that the government would make every effort to make them a part of the developmental process. He urged the people also to recognize the contributions of the workers in the development of the state.
Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (APB&OCWWB) Chairman Jalley Sonam emphasized the need to improve the work condition of the workers in the state, and said awareness of government schemes would be instrumental in further development of the labour community.
Stressing the importance of registering with the board, Sonam informed that 500 registered labourers would avail of housing loans, on seniority basis, in October, “for which Rs 5 crore will be released.” He said tool advance would also be offered to skilled workers in carpentry, repair work, etc.
“However, in the list of 1500 skilled workers, no Arunachalee will benefit from this tools advance as our people are too reluctant to take up these professions,” he lamented.
Sonam said the board would be facilitating a computer course for the children of the registered workers in each district from August onwards.
“A skill development programme on carpentry, light and heavy machinery operation, and wiring work for the card holders will also be organized under the New India, Make India Scheme, which will take place in every district,” he said.
Sonam informed that the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana would be made mandatory for every worker.
Meanwhile, the JWCAPTU said it would submit a memorandum to the chief minister “for the welfare of the workers.”
A large number of labourers from various government departments as well as the private sector participated in the programme.
