Residents threaten to shut down Ranganadi hydropower

ITANAGAR, Jul 25: Residents of Yazali, Lower Subansiri are demanding regular power supply following growing frustration owing to four months of erratic electricity supply as they threaten to shut down the Ranganadi hydropower.
Setting a seven-day deadline, they have also threatened a 24-hour shutdown of the Ranganadi hydropower and the executive engineer’s office (power) at Ziro.
Reportedly, power supply to the sub-division was affected after the Yazali-Kimin feeder line was damaged back in April this year. Residents are complaining that the power supply took a hit and has been irregular.
Writing to the deputy commissioner, a large section of residents of Yazali said that no steps have been taken to restore the power lines, indicative of the administration’s “complete ignorance, negligence, and step-motherly attitude”.
Demanding a separate power line for the Yachuli assembly constituency, residents said that the irregular power supply has affected the functioning of the community health centre and veterinary aid centre.
It has also been alleged that the summer heat has impacted schools and students, the banking sector, and various other facets of daily life.
Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s much promoted ‘Digital India’ campaign, the residents wrote: Is digital India possible without power?
Residents also claimed that the Tago powerhouse operated by the hydropower department is not in a position to supply power to Yazali “despite the huge amount of money having been funded by the government for maintenance every year”. They also alleged that officials of the department remain absent.
The residents called for immediate arrangements for DG set at CHC, veterinary aid centre and government higher secondary school at Yazali till the power supply is restored.
If the power supply is not resorted, residents have threatened to disrupt the main power supply of the power grid.
