ITANAGAR, Aug 14: A team of sports promoters, mentors and officials from Arunachal Pradesh is being taken to Indonesia to provide them with the opportunity to learn and experience new things during the Asian Games scheduled to begin on 18 August in Jakarta.
“This is for the first time since the inception of Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) that the sports promoters, mentors and officials are going to tour abroad with the sole motive of developing games and sports in Arunachal Pradesh,” said AOA Secretary General Abraham K Techi.
Stating that the Asian Games is the second largest multi-sports event in terms of participation after the Olympics, Abraham expressed hope that the trip would immensely benefit the team in learning and experiencing new things in sports, particularly in those disciplines where the sportspersons of the state can excel.
He said the Indian Olympic Association and the Indian embassy in Indonesia have been informed about the proposed tour.
Arunachal Karate Do Association president Likha Tara will lead the team during the tour.
The team, comprising officials from the AOA, various state level sports bodies, social workers and a former footballer, will be leaving here for Indonesia on 16 August.
Meanwhile, Techi expressed displeasure over the selection of various schemes under ‘Khelo India’ in remote and far-flung areas, saying it would fail to serve the desired purpose.
He also informed that the 36th National Games in Goa will be held from 30 March to 14 April.
