Workers’ union serves ultimatum

ITANAGAR, Aug 23: The All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union (AAPWU) served an ultimatum to the chief secretary on Thursday, demanding early implementation of its demands, and threatened to launch a phase-wise democratic action if the government fails to fulfill its demands within 45 days.
The union’s demands include enhancement of workers’ wages at the rate of Rs 18,000 per month; implementation of maternity benefit (leave) for women workers according to the central government notification on 12 April 2017; implementation of same grade pay to same work charge staffs under the government establishments; enhancement of normal death benefit from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakhs for registered workers under the APB&OCWWB; and consideration of appointment of dependants of contingency/casual workers on compassionate ground.
