ROING, Aug 27: Around 100 women, students, and villagers attended a drug awareness campaign organised by the Dapong Primary Level Federation (PLF) of Parbuk village at Parbuk Musup here on Saturday.
Dapong PLF secretary Togin Pertin said the motive behind organising the programme, themed ‘Drugs bring poverty; It is a menace to society’, was to create awareness among the youths.
“Many youths are addicted to drugs and forget all their responsibilities towards their families. There are many houses and relations in trouble,” she said.
Resource persons, MD Dr Aniyang Modi, advocate Atet Pertin, and police inspector Abraham Taying spoke about the medical and legal aspects of drugs, and about the NDPS Act.
Earlier, on Friday, the Mingebona PLF of Bolung village destroyed marijuana plantations in Baksek area in Parbuk circle, and reportedly burnt about 10 kilos of marijuana which was ready for supply to drug peddlers.
The women’s group also warned the culprits against marijuana cultivation and trade.
The raid and destruction was conducted by the Mingebona PLF as part of their anti-drugs campaign which began on 22 August.
