DAPORIJO, Aug 27: The police have detected illegalities and discrepancies in the implementation of various projects by the PWD division here.
A police team led by Daporijo police station OC, Inspector Token Dubi, conducted a preliminary inquiry of the projects in question, following an FIR lodged by Polo Colony Part-2 chairman Chaktak Nilling.
In his FIR, the complainant alleged that Daporijo PWD Division Executive Engineer Tania Raji had mismanaged and siphoned off crores of rupees meant for various projects and schemes in Upper Subansiri.
During the inquiry, the police detected lapses and discrepancies in the implementation of the projects for improving and upgrading the internal road in Daporijo township, under NLCPR, with a sanctioned amount of Rs 5.35 crore; construction of a warehouse for storage of EVMs and VVPAT machines at the district election office here; and repair and maintenance of the PWD division office to Paksum Colony road here.
The police have seized all the documents related to the projects, and interrogated the officials concerned. The superintendent of police has forwarded the police findings to the special investigation cell in Itanagar for further action.
Meanwhile, following a public complaint, the deputy commissioner has summoned the EE and four other subordinate officials of the department to defend themselves against the allegation with proper supporting documents.
When contacted, Raji said the allegations levelled against him were baseless and “an attempt to tarnish my hard-earned image by some people with vested interests.”
