Assn demands shifting of dumping ground

ITANAGAR, Sep 6: The Banderdewa Karsingsa Youth Welfare Association in a representation to the chief minister on Thursday drew his attention to the problems being faced by the commuters and nearby residents at the Karsingsa block point near NH-415 due to dumping of garbage by the Itanagar Municipal Council at the designated site there, and demanded that the dumping site be shifted to another location.
The association claimed that the dumping ground is located close to the highway, in violation of the norms of the Solid Waste Management Rules-2016, which states that dumping grounds should be located 100 metres away from the main road.
“There is no protection wall or security fencing to restrict the entry of the domestic animals of area that die after eating the plastic waste. Moreover, smoke coming out from the site is hazardous and may cause disease among the nearby residents and create environmental pollution,” the association said.
