International Literacy Day celebrated

TEZU, Sep 9: International Literacy Day was organised here by the Lohit district education department in collaboration with the Bamboosa Library.
Addressing readers, teachers, parents and officials, senior officer of the SIB T Rizvi exhorted them to use education to build their life skills.
“Be the change you want to see in the society by making reading a part of your life. Reading will lead you to knowledge which matures to wisdom,” said Rizvi.
Roing NHPC PRO Suneesh PS appealed to the youths to realize the magical influence that reading can have on one’s mental and intellectual development.
Bamboosa Library activists and readers performed a skit themed ‘No litter, only literature’.
Earlier, Bamboosa Library volunteer Sagarlu Yun explained the significance of ‘library reading in a post-literacy movement’ and how it promotes development of the Arunachal society.
The library activists also had a book reading session of famous authors and poem recitations, besides a puppet show on the joy of reading by Lohit DDSE APO Sher Singh.
The guests also gave away prizes for a painting contest held earlier by the DUDA as a part of the Swacchata Abhiyan, besides prizes for storytelling and poster making contests held as part of the celebration.
In the Literacy Day celebration organised in Roing by the Intaya Youth Library, activists from Dibang Youth Library and students from VKV Roing, GHSS Roing and Rayang Middle School presented a variety of reading activities.
Lower Dibang Valley DIPRO Nimina Namchoom exhorted the activists to focus on developing their writing skills and to strive to create a new literature based on Arunachalee life.
