ITANAGAR, Sep 22: The All Tali Area Students’ Union (ATASU) has claimed gross misappropriation of the fund for the Yangte-Tali PWD road and demanded that the state government take strict action against the department officials, contractor and firm concerned.
“The union rural development ministry had sanctioned Rs 28.96 crore for the 38 km Yangte-Tali PWD road in the year 2008, and the construction work started on 12 April, 2013. However, the work is yet to be completed despite extending the original deadline of 11 October 2014 to 31 March 2016,” the ATASU said.
Addressing a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club here on Saturday, ATASU president Tatung Tayum informed that only formation-cutting of the proposed PMGSY road has been done, “and that, too, in such a manner that it still is un-motorable, even for two-wheelers, which is a gross violation of the PMGSY norms.”
He said the executing agency M/s Capital Enterprise and the firm’s principal contractor and power of attorney holder already received payment amounting to Rs 12 crore in 2013 from the Kra Daadi RWD division against the project, and that the remaining funds are also in the process of disbursement.
Stating that the road is the lifeline of five villages – Roing, Dote, Magnia, Niodo, and Neomi – and that the fund misappropriation has undermined its development, the ATASU has demanded blacklisting the firm, immediate suspension of the officials concerned of the RWD, immediate arrest of the contractor, and immediate constitution of an SIT inquiry into the matter.
It has also demanded reconstruction of the project, its completion by September, and not releasing the security deposit money before completion of work.
