Buddhist monastery inaugurated

ROING, Sep 24: Despite the rains, more than 3000 devotees attended the opening of the Dzogchen Choekhorling Monastery – the first Buddhist monastery in Lower Dibang Valley district – which was inaugurated by MLA Mutchu Mithi here on Monday.
Mithi praised the Buddhist community for being disciplined and peace loving.
“It is one of the most respected and successful religions because of the fact that it has synched culture and religion so beautifully,” he said, and announced Rs 20 lakhs from his MLALAD fund for developing the infrastructure of the monastery.
Prayers had been going on in the monastery since last Friday under His Eminence Dzogchen Ganor Rinpoche from the Lhagon Jangchub Choekhorling Monastery, Tezu. The devotees received blessings from the Rinpoche after the inaugural programme.
All Buddhist Welfare Association advisor Dr Mite Linggi informed that the association had been trying to acquire land for the monastery since 2004, after its inception. Land for the purpose was allotted in 2009 during the tenure of the then DC YW Ringu. The monastery was constructed by the PWD.
Rajya Sabha MP Mukut Mithi and DC Mitali Namchoom also attended the inaugural programme.
