ITANAGAR, Sep 28: Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Dr Mohesh Chai convened a meeting of all the stakeholders to discuss various issues, including medical insurance coverage to sportspersons of the state, here on Friday.
A seven-member committee has been constituted with the sports secretary as its chairman to prepare guidelines for providing medical insurance coverage to the sportspersons of the state, according to a release from the sports department.
Dr Chai said the guidelines, after they are prepared, should immediately be submitted to the government necessary approval.
On the suggestion of the All India Council of Sports, the meeting also held threadbare discussion on adoption of the ‘state sport’.
The sports secretary will submit a report on the performance of every sports discipline in the state, along with up-to-date record, based on which the ‘state sport’ will be adopted.
The Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) secretary general has suggested that weightlifting can be adopted as the state sport, considering its chances of winning medals at the highest levels.
Another important issue discussed in the meeting was sports talent hunt for Olympics 2020, 2024 and 2028.
The AOA will conduct the talent hunt in every sports discipline, and the identified promising sportspersons will be given the best coaching and training, to be sponsored by the state government, the release added.
The meeting was attended by the Sports Authority of Arunachal (SAA) chairman, the SAA vice-chairman, the sports & youth affairs secretary, the sports director, the youth affairs director, the Arunachal Olympic Association secretary, the sports deputy director, the sports assistant director, the Khelo India mission director, and representatives from the insurance company concerned.
