DAPORIJO, Sep 29: The final rounds of the senior men’s state level boxing championship, currently underway here, will be held on Sunday.
Seventy-five pugilists from 16 districts are participating in the championship, organized by the Upper Subansiri Amateur Boxing Association (USABA) under the aegis of the Arunachal Amateur Boxing Association (AABA).
Apart from promoting boxing in the state, the championship aims to create awareness among the public, particularly the youths, on the ill-effects of drug abuse on the user’s body and its impact on the society, said USABA president Rago Dechok.
Meanwhile, the AABA said that the state boxing team for the first North East Games scheduled to be held in Imphal, Manipur, will be selected from among the best performing athletes in the ongoing championship.
The championship was inaugurated by Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Danish Ashraf at Singik Hall here on Friday.
He spoke about the importance of games and sports to remain physically fit and mentally sound.
