LONGDING, Oct 13: Around one lakh pineapple suckers were distributed among the farmers of Samstang village here under NEC funded project during a one day training-cum-input distribution programme organized at the village on Friday.
Organized by the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Arunachal Pradesh centre, Basar in collaboration with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Longding under NEC funded project, the programme was attended by over 40 farmers.
Addressing participants, ICAR AP Centre, Basar Joint Director Dr H Kalita briefed about the viable ICAR technology and emphasized on adoption of scientific technologies for production of horticulture and agriculture crops towards attainment of doubling farmers’ income by 2022.
Kanubari HDO GC Tiwari informed the farmers about ways to maintain plant spacing while planting pineapple suckers for better maintenance and harvesting, while ADO Tumpy Lollen spoke about intercropping of pineapple with other agriculture crops for gainful produce from the same plot of land.
SMS Plant Protection Dr Senpon Ngomle also informed the farmers about management of pests and diseases in pineapple production system without using inorganic chemicals, and to produce organic pineapple.
