NPP condemns army atrocity, demands revocation of AFSPA

ITANAGAR, Nov 24: The state unit of the National People’s Party (NPP) strongly condemned the alleged atrocity perpetrated by Indian Army personnel on the villagers of Longkhojan in Longding district recently, and urged the state government to initiate action against the personnel involved in the incident.
Demanding revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from Arunachal, the NPP said “the Indian Army has been misusing the AFSPA to harass the innocent public of the region time and again, which is a total violation of human rights.
Reportedly, 23 people, including a priest, of Longkhojan village were beaten up by army personnel on 18 November. The army personnel reportedly raided the village without seeking permission from the district administration.
“Anything done by the villagers at gunpoint to save their lives cannot be treated as an act of showing sympathy to underground elements. The army personnel beating up the innocent villagers for carrying the dead body of the militant is a totally inhuman act,” the NPP said.
