Arunachal docs receive CMC fellowship

VELLORE, Dec 8: Drs Gomi Basar and Obang Perme of the Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences, Naharlagun, were conferred post-MD fellowship in diabetes management, and Dr Tani Siram from Bakin Pertin General Hospital, Pasighat, in family medicine by the Christian Medical College (CMC) here in Tamil Nadu during the convocation and centenary celebration of the institute on Saturday.
Drs Basar and Perme are the first two physicians from Arunachal Pradesh to have specialized in diabetes from the CMC here, under Dr Nihal Thomas, head of the institute’s endocrinology, diabetes & metabolism department.
Dr Siram is also the first from the state to have specialized in family medicine from the CMC here.
India recorded 72 million diabetes patients in 2017, and the figure is expected to be nearly double by 2025.
In Arunachal Pradesh, the burden of diabetes and pre-diabetes together is about 18%, which is alarmingly high.
